Preparing Now for Future Evaluation | Matthew 13:47-58 (ESV)
Throughout life we experience different kinds of evaluation. Beginning with school, we are evaluated with academic examinations. When looking for a job, we are interviewed and evaluated. Once we gain employment, we face regular performance reviews. We are constantly being evaluated, and these evaluations remind us and point forward to God’s ultimate evaluation of every human being at the end of the age. In today’s passage, Jesus teaches that all of us will be assessed and evaluated by God. In light of future judgment, we must turn to Jesus to find refuge and assurance of salvation before that day comes.
