Deacons: Servants Of The Church | 1 Timothy 3:8-13 ESV
Today’s passage looks at the church office of deacon. Deacons are one of two offices in the church (the other office is elder which is described in the previous section of the current series, 1 Timothy 3:1-7). Depending on one’s church background and denomination, what deacons do in the life of a church might include many different job descriptions. However, even though the Bible doesn’t include a detailed job description for deacons, it does give very clear, detailed qualifications. Most importantly, to become either an elder or deacon, requires someone to possess godliness and spiritual character. When it comes to church leadership, God cares not about outward appearance. Instead, He cares about the heart. Above all things, church leaders must be spiritually qualified according to the descriptions that are listed in today’s passage.
