Becoming Part Of God’s Family | Matthew 12:43-50(ESV)
There are many ways we think about our identity. We may have a deep sense of belonging and loyalty to our family, friend group, nation, or ethnicity. All of us have obligations to different groups and our inclusion in some of these groups is part of God’s providential plan in making us who we are. However, today’s passage reveals another critical aspect of our identity. Since we have been made by God, allegiance to Him is required above all other people and groups. Jesus redefines our core identity, and for those who believe in Him and do His will, He gives a beautiful promise – that we will be part of the family of God.
