Fasting In Secret | Matthew 6:16-18 (ESV)

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns us against doing righteous things for the wrong reasons, things like giving, praying and fasting. God is concerned with our hearts and the motives for which we do things. Fasting is a way to seek God with desperation and intensity. When we fast, do we try to impress others, so that others know how spiritual we are? Do we try to impress God with our self-discipline? Christians ought to fast, but we ought to do it for the right reasons.
