Cultivating Humility | 1 Peter 5:5-7 (ESV)

The Bible is clear – God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Yet even though Christians understand that humility ought to mark our lives, we battle against pride every day. The late pastor John Stott once wrote, “At every stage of our Christian development and in every sphere of our Christian discipleship, pride is the greatest enemy and humility our greatest friend.” Pride can lead to our downfall, but humility invites God’s grace into our lives. Humility stands at the foundation of our relationship with God and it should characterize our relationships within the church.
