Ministry to the Sick and Healing Prayer PDF Print E-mail

prayerIf you wish to receive prayer for healing, the pastoral staff and elders are available to meet with you when and where it is required. We believe that the Church has been called to pray for the sick, it is Christ's calling to heal the sick. Our healing ministry is based on Jesus' ministry to the sick as recorded in the gospels. Approximately 1/3 of Jesus ministry was devoted to healing the sick. As he was comfortable among those who were ill, so too the Church must be, trusting the power of the Spirit to heal and make whole.

After his resurrection the Lord, by His Spirit, gives gifts of healing to the people of God as he wills (1Cor. 12.9). Some people in the body of Christ have the faith to see the sick recover. Further he entrusts his healing ministry to the leadership of the local church in which those who are sick are to call upon the elders to pray for them. The initiative rests with the sick person to reach out in faith for healing. (James 5.14). James expects that the elders prayer for them will have three effects: the prayer of faith will make the person well; the Lord will raise them up and their sins will be forgiven. Sickness is complex and thus the cure is complex as it often involves body, soul and spirit. As well healing may take time. Most healing is not spontaneous.

We try to have time for the elders and others to pray for those who wish it at the close of our Sunday morning worship. Those who want prayer are asked to come forward where they will be prayed for in faith and in confidence.
