China is experiencing unprecedented transformation, not only economically and socially, but also spiritually. After the Cultural Revolution a moral and spiritual vacuum was left and while China has benefited from capitalism, capitalism cannot provide meaning for life or an ethic that will serve another's interest and well-being. So the question remains, ‘China may become great, but will China become good?' Only the gospel can answer that question.

China is complicated, with a huge population of 1.3 billion, with more than 50 different people groups speaking different languages. However, God is doing great things in China to bring people into His kingdom. Peasant farmers and business people are fearless in ‘gossiping the gospel' and miracles of healing happen in countryside as well as in the cities.

Through ECC's strategic location and people resources in Hong Kong, we can bless China in many different ways. At present, ECC has ministries in the province of Hubei and Northwest China and we also support different mission partners to serve other provinces.

The purpose of our China Missions ministry is to help churches in China grow through:

• Support training for church leaders in China, so as to empower and encourage them to witness for Christ within China.

• Our present focus in Hubei province is training to train up church leaders to set up their own Bible teaching program in local churches. False gospels and false teaching spread widely and quickly in China, so there is a pressing need to help the church mature so that new believers can understand right and wrong and enable them to rely upon the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit with confidence. They also need a methodology that will enable them to pass on what they learn and experience.

• Partnering with others who are helping to reach the growing middle-class with the gospel, who are involved in business, education and commerce.

• Supporting outreach and service programs initiated by local churches within China, partnering with them to serve university students, the elderly, youth, and others.

• Supporting various projects and people that serve the poor, orphans, the sick and minority people groups that cannot be reached and served by local churches in China at the moment.
