Lead Pastor
Pastor Randal Young joined the ECC staff as Lead Pastor in 2011. Born and raised in San Francisco, he was first exposed to the Christian faith through a piano teacher who brought him to church as a teenager. At the age of 19, he personally put his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized. Before becoming a pastor, Randal first worked as a systems engineer for NASA as well as for private computer firms. Then, the Lord began tugging at his heart, as he became more involved in the church, in youth ministry, and in evangelistic music ministry. In 1984, he started formal ministry training, and received his M.Div. from Calvin Theological Seminary in Michigan, USA. He has planted two churches and served several established churches in southern California, New York, and San Francisco. Randal's publications include Leadership Training Workshop, Today (May 1996, November 1999), Sovereign Grace (2000), and the Disciple's Growth Kit (1999). His messages are broadcast on Pilgrim Radio, on over 40 radio stations around the USA.
What does he enjoy most about life and ministry at ECC and Hong Kong?
"There is a movement of God here in Asia, of which Hong Kong is like a crowded gateway. It is exciting to be in the middle of such lightning-speed activity. Here, God is causing a certain ripeness, like a ripe banana that must be peeled now, not later. People have become hungry for the things of God. This makes me dream of a day when the construction worker outside my building is singing about Jesus, drug users become addicted to God, and rich real estate tycoons investing in eternity. This might seem like a lofty vision for Hong Kong, but I see the people of ECC becoming dissatisfied with the tediousness of everyday existence, and longing to be a part of something really big -- the revival of Christ's Church, the promotion of God's Kingdom, and the transformation of Hong Kong for Christ." Director of Filipino Ministry
Before I joined ECC and the staff on October 15, 2010 with my wife, I was pastoring Quarry Bay Filipino Alliance Church here in Hong Kong for nine years. Prior to our coming to Hong Kong, I have been a pastor, church planter and District Ministry Supervisor in the Philippines.
What does he enjoy most about life and ministry at ECC and Hong Kong?
I like the expanding and deepening relationship I am having with the multinational membership and staff of ECC. It is also joy to me working with my wife in serving the Filipino group, growing with them and serving God together.
I enjoy Hong Kong so much for its scenic beauty, peace and order, multi-race and culture, and foremost because it is where I could meet and minister to my fellow Filipinos from all over the Philippines.
